INFORMATICS (Teacher of Computer Science and Informatics; Teacher of Mathematics and Informatics; Teacher of Mathematics and Physics)
The study program of INFORMATICS at the basic academic studies of the first cycle lasts for four years – 240 ECTS credits are acquired. The second cycle (master’s degree) lasts two semesters in which 60 ECTS credits and third cycle (doctoral studies) lasts for three years and 180 ECTS credits are acquired.
A student who defends a thesis after passing all subjects provided by the curriculum for eight semesters receives a certificate of completion of the study program with 240 ECTS credits, and graduates with selected elective courses of the appropriate module – 240 ECTS.
A student who defends a master’s thesis after passing all the subjects provided by the curriculum for two semesters receives a certificate of completion of the study program with 60 ECTS credits, and acquires a master’s degree with selected elective courses of the appropriate module – 60 ECTS.
A student who defends a doctoral dissertation after passing all the subjects provided by the curriculum for six semesters receives a certificate of completion of the study program with 180 ECTS credits, namely a Doctor of Philosophy IN Information Sciences – 180 ECTS.
The study program INFORMATICS enables students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on the application of modern IT concepts in the fields of accounting, finance and banking, tourism, management, marketing, as well as clear recognition and definition of professions related to informatics and computing, mathematics and informatics, mathematics and physics. modern society, acquiring competencies for work in teaching in secondary and primary education. Special attention is paid to the application and use of Internet capabilities in these areas, so students are trained to implement various types of e-business.
The goal of the program of integrated academic studies that is double-major teaching of natural sciences, mathematics, physics and computer science is to achieve appropriate academic knowledge necessary for competent performance of the teacher’s work in the selected group of subjects in primary and secondary vocational education and for work in professional, developmental and supervisory pedagogical services in administrative institutions.
By successfully mastering various disciplines within the study program, students are trained to design and implement software systems of varying complexity, with the most current programming languages. The acquired knowledge will enable them to work independently on the development of complex software systems using the latest technologies and efficiently using different methodological approaches. The end result is work with modern business systems with the possibility of using Internet technologies. Therefore, they will be able to quickly and easily join teams for the development of modern multi-layer software systems for various purposes. It will perform the selection, implementation, application, integration and administration of information technologies in the best way.
While mastering the study program double-major, a student acquires the ability to analyse and predict the result, critical thinking, solve specific problems using scientific methods and procedures, the ability to communicate using at least one foreign language, and much more.
The aim is that after mastering the study program, students acquire the ability for creative use of the latest computer science and informatics, mathematics and physics. In addition to the above, a student who completes this program will be able to perform the following tasks:
- design and implementation of business information systems,
- management of information systems,
- software systems development,
- implementation and maintenance of various types of databases,
- computer network administration,
- graphic design,
- public administration and local government,
- staff training for jobs in related to business informatics,
- work as teachers in the field of natural sciences, mathematics and computer science, mathematics and informatics, mathematics and physics in primary and secondary vocational education,
- work in educational-scientific institutions with legally prescribed titles,
- work in professional, developmental and supervisory pedagogical services in administrative bodies.
When designing the study program of informatics, the most modern knowledge from the profession and science in the subject area was taken into account, as well as the experiences of other higher education institutions in the countries with the most advanced school systems and in the countries of the former Yugoslavia in which the Bologna Process was accepted as the standard one.
Appropriate subjects are included in this study program, the methodology of general education, professional, and especially professional-applied subjects is developed through carefully selected auditory exercises, preparation of seminar papers, critical analysis and comparison of cases from practice, etc. Thereby, the teaching process is based on understandably presented material and modern teaching aids available to the student: computers, the latest literature and direct contact with teachers and associates. Students make a valuable direct contact with the business process through practical classes in business organizations. The teaching process completes by enriching students with important practical knowledge and experience.
Teaching in the academic program consists of lectures, auditory exercises, practical exercises, seminar papers, presentations, consultations, etc., which depends on the subject itself, the nature of its goals and expected outcomes.
The study program of Informatics has a clearly defined purpose and role in the education system of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and refers to the integration of the University into the higher education system of Brcko District of Bosnia and Herzegovina, within the European educational area, with continuous improvement of all elements of study program quality and contribution to the overall development of society
Based on the analysis, a student is able to assess certain issues of the profession from the point of view of the profession as well as from the point of view of wider social benefits. The knowledge and competencies that the student acquires upon completion of undergraduate studies are sufficient to monitor the second cycle of studies in the study program of Informatics and to monitor the same or similar programs at other faculties. The acquired basic knowledge enables the student to follow the programs of other similar studies of Informatics.
